Never in a million years would most of us think advocating drug testing for all Wisconsinites is good public policy. That’s a clear violation of people’s rights. But that’s exactly the position New Richmond Alderman Scottie Ard recently took during a Twitter exchange with State Representative Jimmy Anderson.

The stupidity of this position is amazing, but if you scrape all the stupid away the hypocrisy that lies underneath is even more remarkable. When she is making the rules for the rest of us, Ard wants drug tests for everyone in Wisconsin, whether there is a reason to suspect drug use or not. But when she was stopped by police and suspected of drunk driving Ard refused to take a blood, breath or urine test.
Even for a politician this is an egregious example of insisting that the rules are for thee but not me.
