The latest Marquette University Law School poll shows that 62% of Wisconsinites want their Senator to support a highly qualified Supreme Court nominee even if they disagree with them. Once again, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin’s position falls well outside mainstream Wisconsin. Even 57% of Democrats disagree with Baldwin’s plan to block the nomination of Neil Gorsuch, a Federal Appellate Court judge whose qualifications to serve on the U.S. Supreme court are not in question.
But there are two sides to Tammy Baldwin’s position on judicial confirmation. Last year, when President Obama nominated Merrick Garland for the Supreme Court, Baldwin blasted her GOP colleagues for not considering Garland’s nomination. Baldwin told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel “Their decision not to give him a hearing or vote was unprecedented and outrageous.”
Now Baldwin is telling the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel she would oppose Gorsuch and support a filibuster of his nomination.
It’s head turning stuff and in the opinion of Politifact a full flip flop.
